Last week when I heard the following story I could not believe my ears!

After watching my Business Mastery Webinar, Anthony Summers, owner of a successful plumbing business, came to consult with one of our Destinata Wealth Officers (WO).

He was especially interested in the tax-proofing part. His net profit per annum is, on average, R2.4 million. His tax on that is about R960,000.

The WO explained to him how they can legally save him 100% of that tax bill. Of course he was very impressed. Who wouldn’t be?

Even when the WO told him that his business and financials will have to be restructured by highly qualified professional business accountants, he was still very eager.

However… When they said it would cost about R150,000 to make R960,000 tax-free, he was not impressed. By the way, the cost differs from case to case. It is determined by every person’s business structure and the size of their profit.

Back to Anthony… Not even the fact that his net savings would be more than R800,000 could change his mind.

For him, it was too expensive! Finish and klaar!

Instead of spending R150k to save R800k, he would rather spend R800k to not spend R150k. How someone with such a mindset could build such a successful business blows my mind.

Anyways, I suppose somebody should keep the corrupt government’s pockets full.

What makes me, a passionate property investor, sad, is the fact that his R800k net tax saving could be a 50% deposit on a new townhouse of R1.6m… on which, thanks to Section 13sex of the Income Tax Act, he could claim R880k back from SARS!

Imagine everything he could have done with that R880k rebate… I can go on and on with “imagines” and “what if’s?”, but I’ll rather stop.

Sometimes logic is completely lost.
